Image Centre Manufacturing & the Environment.
New Zealand has always seen itself, and actively promotes itself, as clean and green. Image Centre has a responsibility and a keen awareness to maintain this image, with initiatives to keep the country as clean, natural and unspoilt as possible.

Paper – Promoting Sustainable Forests.
In September this year, Image centre became only the second print company in New Zealand to be accredited with both FSC and PEFC Certification (Forestry Stewardship Council & Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Council). This ensures that we are continuing to promote sustainable forests and furthers the company’s commitment to both global and domestic environmental friendly policies.

Ink – Keeping it clean!
An environmentally friendly sheet fed ink should be manufactured from a 100% renewable resource, I.E raw material available from above the ground which can be regrown, as opposed to from under the ground. At image Centre ICL uses Inks that contain vegetable oils and fatty acid alkyl-esters (modified vegetable oils), which are used to replace the classic mineral oil based solvents. This has resulted in an ink range that contains less than 1 % non-renewable mineral oil, whilst maintaining vivid, bright print expected by our clients.

Manufacturing – Carbon Neutral “totally cool”
In May 2008 Image centre manufactured the first carbon neutral magazine in New Zealand. ”Good” magazine, published by HB Media has remained Carbon Neutral ever since.
Greenland NZ, a carbon action company, has calculated the carbon footprint for the magazine and offset those emissions with Verified Emission Reduction offsets. The VER’s are approved by the NZ government and have been used to fund other energy projects. Other publications are expected to follow. The Carbon Neutral bandwagon is rolling!

Recycling
All Ink canisters, paper waste and printing plates are recycled. Solvent reclamation is planned for 2009.
