As a child I can remember my parents telling me to turn the lights off when I left a room, recycle, reuse...how to not be wasteful...It would seem I have been environmentalist all my life without even knowing it...these things were just part of everyday life. Now as an adult, I'm taking my environmentalism to a new level with the help of my husband. We are starting up a farm and updating an old homestead to be energy efficient while using environmentally friendly construction. It's a challenge..a big one. In fact, my experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cape Verde, West Africa, has been invaluable. But it's worth it. In the end we'll have a self-sustaining farm and a minute carbon footprint. It's a worthy gift to give back to Mother Nature who nurtures us unconditionally.
There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed. ~Mohandas K. Gandhi
There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew. ~Marshall McLuhan, 1964
We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect. ~Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac
